Power and Control Wheel

The Power and Control Wheel was developed in Duluth, Minnesota.

“It was developed after (the shelter) interviewed many women, asking them to identify the most common tactics their abusers used to control them.  At the hub of the wheel, the centre is the intention of all the tactics – to establish power and control.  Each spoke of the wheel represents a particular tactic (economic abuse, emotional abuse, isolation and so forth).  The rim of the wheel, which gives it strength and holds it together, is physical abuse.”

“...the Power and Control Wheel connects abusive behaviours.  Each spoke represents a tactic.  The rim representing the use of physical and sexual violence, binds the system together to give it strength.”
